The New York City Writing Project's goal is is to improve the teaching and learning of language and literacy in New York City public schools by increasing teachers' abilities to use writing as a tool for learning, thinking, and communicating. Through collaborations with teachers and schools, the NYCWP seeks to transform the ways in which writing and reading are perceived, taught, and evaluated in urban classrooms. (About the NYCWP )

Spring Technology Retreat

"Voices of Youth: The Potential of Internet Communities"

May 2nd and 3rd


How can we use technology to put the voices of youth at the center of the classroom? 

Come join us as we share the ways we use the Internet to make student-to-student connections.

 
Spend a weekend with other New York City Writing Project teachers who use technology in their classrooms.

Learn about a curriculum currently being developed and collaborated on by teachers across the nation.
Explore how we use blogs, wikis, podcasts, and other tools to inspire young people to explore their own questions.


Participate in workshops using Trailfire and Ed.VoiceThread, with student samples,
and much more, open to all levels of experience with technology, writing, and teaching.



Join us at 4:30 - 7:00, Friday, May 2nd and 9:00 - 2:00, Saturday, May 3rd
at the Baccalaureate School for Global Education
34-12 36th Avenue, Astoria, Queens

Subway: Take the R, V, G train to 36th Street or the N, W to 36th Avenue. Bus: Q66, Q101, Q102
BSGE is located in Astoria on 36th Avenue between 34th and 35th Streets.

Participants will receive a $250 stipend
